Stellantis’ Brampton Plant Could Close As Dodge Charger And Challenger Might Move Stateside

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis recently confirmed the current Charger and Challenger will be phased out in late 2023 and it appears their deaths will also spell the end of the Chrysler 300.

According to Automotive News Canada, the Premier of Ontario was “blindsided” by reports the Brampton Assembly Plant would be without any products when production of the “Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger end in the third quarter of 2023.”

Doug Ford went on to say he’s been getting “mixed messages” about the plant’s future and just wants “someone to be honest” with him. The Premier added the government is willing to provide support to help keep the plant open, but someone at Stellantis needs to reach out and ask for it.

However, the offer might fall on deaf ears as AutoForecast Solutions believes the next-generation Charger and Challenger – if they retain the names – will be built in the United States at the Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois. If that were to happen and Brampton doesn’t get any new products, approximately 3,163 people would be out of a job.

The company is staying tight-lipped, but Chrysler Canada’s Head of Communications, LouAnn Gosselin, told the publication Brampton will have products through the end of 2023. However, she added the automaker has “not made any future product announcements” and said the company considers “many factors” when determining where to build new vehicles.

While Ford is willing to provide support to keep the plant open, he’s also trying to make closing the facility less appealing. As he explained, it was made “very clear to Chrysler and Stellantis, if they think they’re going to sell that property into residential, it’s not going to happen.” Banning residential development on the land occupied by the plant would seriously limit its appeal and Ford added, if “they have dreams of grandeur and that they’re going to make a fortune [on the land], well, it’s just not going to happen.”

Two Canadian Drivers Crash After Close Encounter With Truck; Were They Racing Each Other?

Two drivers have been filmed crashing on a street in Montreal, Canada while appearing to break the speed limit and potentially racing each other.

Local news outlet Journal Demontreal reports the incident happened last week when the driver of a large truck was attempting to make a right-hand turn into a parking lot.

Speaking with the publication, the driver of the truck, Éric Thibault, said he was driving at dawn when he wanted to turn into a parking lot. To make the turn, he drove the truck into the left-most lane before turning across all three lanes of traffic. He claims to have been roughly 250 yards from the nearest intersection at the time and says that red lights should have prevented any motorist from getting anywhere near him.

However, just as the trucker begins to turn to the right, a black hatchback (which appears to be a VW Golf), clips the front of the truck and is sent sliding down the sidewalk, taking with it a small tree. A second vehicle, namely a white Honda Civic sedan, then comes at high speed and slams head-on into another, much larger tree.

The speed limit on the road was 60 km/h (37 mph), but the trucker believes the two cars were probably going at least 100 km/h (62 mph).

The City of Montreal Police Service is investigating the crash and has confirmed that none of the motorists suffered any serious injuries.

Hate Crime Or Overreaction? Mustang Driver In Trouble For Leaving Tire Marks On Pride Crosswalk

June was LGBT Pride Month and the West Vancouver Police Department celebrated the occasion by unveiling a rainbow-colored crosswalk outside the station.

At the time, the department said “While our Pride flag may have come down for the year, the new crosswalk will remain as a statement of our commitment to promote inclusion, diversity, and respect.”

One week after it was unveiled, the crosswalk was reportedly “defaced” by the driver of a fourth-generation Ford Mustang. According to the department, on July 7th staff inside the police station heard “loud and sustained tire squealing” coming from outside.

When they went to investigate, they discovered tire marks on the crosswalk. Police went on to say the “suspect vehicle left the area at a high rate of speed and was not located.”

In a statement, Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy claimed the driver of the Mustang chose to “leave a gesture of hate on a crosswalk that stands for the exact opposite.” The department also called for the public’s help locating the pony car.

While it’s unfortunate the crosswalk was damaged, the surveillance video doesn’t exactly scream hate crime. As you can see, the Mustang pulls up to the intersection and makes a complete stop. It then turns right and drives out of view.

There’s no audio and the rear tires are hidden by vegetation, but this doesn’t appear like the aggressive, hate-filled burnout that police are implying. The ‘action’ also lasts for less than eight seconds and that doesn’t seem like it could cause the “sustained tire squealing” claimed by police.

CBC News reports police have identified a suspect, but there’s no word on who it is or what charges they could be facing. However, the department originally noted they were a investigating a case of “mischief to property.”

It’s official! We held a small ceremony today to unveil the new Pride crosswalk outside the police station. While our…

Canadian Police On Hunt For A Driver Who Really, Really Hates Gas Pumps

Hilarious footage has emerged out of the city of Brandon in Manitoba, Canada showing an angry man repeatedly hitting and smashing a gas pump.

Brandon police released the surveillance video that was filmed on April 25 at a gas station on Highland Avenue.

In the video, an older gentleman can be seen hitting the gas pump with his fist on multiple occasions as he tries to pump fuel. He grows increasingly irritated and even starts kicking the gas pump before he pulls out the nozzle and hits the fuel pump with it. Before long, he throws the nozzle and the hose up into the air and drives off.

Police told Global News that the man was upset after being asked to pay before pumping.

“He wasn’t pleased about being asked to pre-pay for his fuel and unfortunately decided to take it out on the gas pump,” said Brandon Police spokesperson Const. Myran Hamm last Friday. “There’s a complaint of mischief because there was some damage done to the pump.”

Authorities are asking anyone who recognizes the man to call them or Crime Stoppers.

While it can be frustrating to pay before fueling up, it’s bizarre to see someone get so upset with it. For the sake of other drivers, we hope the man was able to cool down when he got back behind the wheel because you don’t want someone to be driving around as angry as this.
