Genesis G90 Spied Inside Again, Shows New Details

Today and thanks to our follower visionc_ we noticed a new set of interior pictures were taken showing new details such as the new buttons to open doors as this next generation 2022 Genesis G90 (codenamed as RS4) won’t have it handles. Genesis placed some buttons in the front and rear center console.

What we know so far?

The next-gen G90 was confirmed to be equipped with a ‘level 3’ autonomous driving system consisting of a camera radar and two lidars. We also have known that will keep the 5.0 V8 engine while having air suspension for the first time.

This is the very first time we saw the new luxury sedan from Genesis, but there are a few keys to recognize as a new Genesis vehicle, like the taillights, which still has the two lines, but this is the first time we see the front end, and it has similar headlights as the Genesis bespoke EV model, not sure if this is the new design identity or just provisional lights.

The two radar LiDAR system will allow to implement level 3 autonomous driving based on a control algorithm developed by Hyundai Motor in addition to the existing camera radar sensor.

On the other hand, the next-gen Genesis G90 will be equipped with two radars on both sides of the front of the vehicle to realize a more advanced autonomous driving function, such as interrupting the vehicle in the sideways car while driving. In addition, more precise operation is possible even in cloudy weather, and it can be replaced more naturally in various emergencies.

“Equipped with one radar, the autonomous driving function is focused on the front side, but mounting the radar on the two front sides is advantageous for implementing a more complete level 3, such as detecting a vehicle intrusion.” “Before responding to Level 3 technology, it will be advantageous to secure the advantage of self-driving technology with the G90.”

Hyundai’s hardware (HW) camera, radar, and lidar three groups of sensing devices are integrated into a single algorithm, and various sensor signals generated during driving are combined to secure an independent control algorithm that makes optimal judgment.

The new G90 is expected to be an important opportunity for Hyundai to take the lead in technological advancement in the field of autonomous driving in the future.

Should You Pick The All-Electric Genesis G80 Over The ICE Models?

While the GV60 is the first Genesis electric vehicle built from the ground up, it isn’t actually the brand’s first EV. That title belongs to the Genesis eG80, also known as the Electrified G80.

Genesis unveiled the vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show back in mid-April and recently handed it over to reviewers in South Korea. This particular review comes courtesy of YouTuber CarSceneKorea and shows him testing the car both on the highway and some more flowing and enjoyable roads.

Powering the Electrified G80 are a pair of electric motors, one at each axle, combining to produce 365 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Genesis says the car can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.

Interestingly, the electric G80 is only down 10 hp from the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged petrol V6 model but has 125 lb-ft of additional torque. As such, the reviewer says it feels much quicker than the flagship ICE model. He also praises the car’s handling and thinks it is better to drive than the ICE model, thanks in part to the lower center of gravity.

There are some downsides to the Genesis Electrified G80. For example, it sacrifices a lot of trunk space because there is now a large electric motor at the rear. The presence of the battery pack under the floor also means the seats are positioned slightly higher than the standard car, so the driving position isn’t quite as good.

Acura TLX Type S Vs. Genesis G70 Vs. Kia Stinger: Which Asian Performance Sedan Is The Fastest?

The Acura TLX Type S, Genesis G70, and Kia Stinger are all 300+ horsepower sedans with turbocharged six-cylinder engines and all-wheel drive, and while they all have slightly different niches, they all excel at one thing: being more affordable alternatives to German sports sedans. So what happens when they’re pitted against each other in a race? Throttle House’s latest video answers that question, which sees the three Asian sedans compete in a drag and a roll race.

These cars are all pretty evenly matched when it comes to power, and two actually have the exact same engine and drivetrain, so the competition should be pretty evenly matched. The TLX Type S is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 making 355 hp (360 PS / 265 kW) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque, while both the G70 and the Stinger are powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 making 365 hp (370 PS / 272 kW) and 376 lb-ft (508 Nm) of torque.

In the drag race, all three got a pretty good start and were neck-and-neck for a good part of the race. Then for whatever reason, be it gearing, engine calibration, or something else altogether, the G70 and the Stinger left the TLX in the dust, with the G70 taking the lead by a hair. The roll race told a similar story. It was neck and neck for most of the race, but towards the end, while not by as much as in the drag race, the G70 and the Stinger pulled ahead, with the G70 just barely finishing first.

That’s quite the interesting outcome, seeing as it was the most luxury-oriented car of the bunch that came in first while the most performance-focused one came in last. Nevertheless, you can check it out in the video below to see the races for yourself.

Next-gen Genesis G90 Spied for the First Time

Back in April, we have informed you that Hyundai Motor Group will premiere world’s first ‘LiDAR’ on the next generation Genesis G90, for the first time in a production vehicle. Above you will see the first spy picture of the next-gen G90 (codenamed as RS4).

The next-gen G90 was confirmed to be equipped with a ‘level 3’ autonomous driving system consisting of a camera radar and two lidars, which is scheduled to be released by the end of 2021. We also have known that will keep the 5.0 V8 engine while having air suspension for the first time.

The new G90 is expected to be an important opportunity for Hyundai to take the lead in technological advancement in the field of autonomous driving in the future.
