Florida Could Suspend Carvana’s Dealer License For Not Submitting Title Applications

<!––>

<!––>

Florida could suspend Carvana’s dealer license after it has failed to transfer the titles of some vehicles sold.

Carvana was reportedly notified of the issues in an email sent by Florida authorities last week. This email is said to have included a spreadsheet that showed 300 Carvana vehicle sales dating back to 2019 that had not had their titles transferred. More than 100 of these vehicle sales occurred in Florida.

State law in Florida requires retailers to apply for a title within 30 days of completing a sale. Speaking with Auto News, a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said Carvana has until January 31 to submit title applications for all the vehicles it sold in 2021 before December 1.

“The department has been proactively working with Carvana to identify and assist Florida customers who have not received their title in a timely manner, and in accordance with state law,” the spokesperson added. “Florida law allows for the suspension of the dealer’s license if they fail to apply for a transfer of title in a timely manner.”

This isn’t the first time Carvana has been scrutinized for not delivering titles in time. Earlier this year it settled with Florida regulators and agreed to pay $500 each to 12 customers who had to wait three to eight months to receive titles on vehicles they purchased. In August, Carvana had its dealer license suspended for 180 days in Wake County, North Carolina for not producing titles fast enough, among other issues.

Carvana sold 244,111 vehicles in the U.S. last year, making it the country’s second-largest retailer of used vehicles. A spokeswoman from the company says Carvana has applied for around 23,500 titles in Florida over the past 12 months.

The fifth-generation Avalon might have been introduced in 2018, but Toyota has confirmed that 2022 will mark the end of its production. Today, the automaker announced pricing for the 2022 MY alongside a few changes in the lineup.

The 2022 Toyota Avalon starts from $36,375 (excluding the $1,025 fee), making it $250 more expensive than last year’s model.

The full-size sedan is not available in AWD variants anymore, while the sporty TRD trim was also dropped from the range. The 2022 lineup includes six trim levels, including the XSE Nightshade Edition that is visually differentiated from the glossy black accents, the 19-inch wheels, and the rear diffuser. Maine Revokes Registration Of Imported Mitsubishi Delicas, Are Other JDM Cars At Risk?

In a strange move, the state of Maine has started actively deregistering imported Mitsubishi Delicas that were perfectly legal until now.

The story was first picked up by Crankshaft Culture, which published a letter that a Delica owner received from Maine’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) stating that the registration for their van had been “cancelled.”

“This vehicle is not eligible for motor vehicle registration in Maine and may not be operated on the public highway,” the BMV wrote. “You must remove the plates from this vehicle and return the plates to the BMV main office in the provided self-addressed postage paid envelope by May 10, 2021. The operation of these vehicles on the public way is a traffic violation.”

The vans in question are generally third- or fourth-generation models produced before 1995, making them eligible for import. The 25-year rule, though, is a federal one, and states are allowed to decide which vehicles they allow to be registered and which they don’t.

Why Maine has decided not just to stop Delicas from being registered from now on, but to actively start deregistering them, is a little complicated, yet it seemingly comes down to what the state views as their purpose. Speaking to Autoblog, the office of Maine’s Secretary of State said that it’s because it sees Delicas as off-road vehicles that don’t meet federal safety requirements.

“Given that these vehicles are generally right-hand steerage and have few, if any modern safety features or emission controls, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and EPA have both ruled that this class of vehicles may be only used for off road farming (or similar) use,” the office wrote. “Maine considers these vehicles to be ATVs.”

That’s a pretty stunning statement considering the fact that an ATV’s design shares little besides its four wheels in common with a Delica. More noteworthy still, Mitsubishi actually sold the Delica in the U.S. in some forms.

Speaking to Jalopnik, the Special Assistant to the Secretary of State, Emily Cook, confirmed that the state of Maine believes that imported Delicas don’t comply with legislation, thus they’re having their registrations revoked.

“Vehicles which don’t meet [federal regulations for safety and emissions] aren’t supposed to be registered. When we find that any such vehicle has been inappropriately registered, we revoke that registration, which is what recently happened to a handful of pre-1995 Mitsubishi Delica vans,” said Cook. “This is all, of course, to ensure safety on Maine roads and protect the environment.”

Cook did say that exceptions exist for “antique vehicles” that met the regulations of their day but said that they can only be driven in certain circumstances. The small number of Delicas that were sold in the U.S. between 1987 and 1990 may then be allowed to stay on Maine’s roads.

As for other imported vehicles that were never designed to specifically meet U.S. safety and emissions standards, Cook said that any vehicle the state defines as “mistakenly registered,” like the Delica, will receive a letter such as the one quoted above.

Does this mean that other JDM models that have been imported under the 25-year rule, like Nissan GT-Rs or Silvias, could also be targeted? We (and their owners, we guess) certainly hope not, but that statement is not very reassuring.

An easy-to-read LCD readout on the instrument panel shows the selected gear at all times for the driver.

This drivetrain generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque to meet performance and fuel efficiency needs. An available sport mode can take the thrills a bit higher with more aggressive shift points and the ability to hold a gear longer.

Elantra GT & GT N Line Discontinued from US-market

It finally happened. Hyundai Motor America has announced some changes into their U.S line-up for 2021 model year and that will remove the Elantra GT hatchback also on its N-Line variant.

Despite it was a predictable movement (after they premiered the 7th generation Elantra sedan, the Elantra GT was removed from the media site) it was not until now when Hyundai officially discontinued.

In the case of regular Elantra GT, Hyundai allegedly decided to discontinue it due to the expand of its SUV line-up as well as market trend. The N-Line will have a different fate as will be replaced by Elantra N-Line sedan set to debut before the end of the year.

‘Bronco Nation’ Website Is Your One-Stop Shop For All Things Ford Bronco

Ford Bronco owners and fans of all things Bronco can sweeten the wait until the world debut of the all-new 2021 Bronco and 2021 Bronco Sport by accessing a new website made especially for them.

It’s called the Bronco Nation and was developed by a passionate group of enthusiasts “whose mission is to celebrate the iconic Bronco brand and build a community for everyone that loves the Bronco.”

The website describes itself as “an independent enthusiast community and the first to be nationally recognized and certified by Ford.” Bronco Nation is said to be built by “a passionate and knowledgeable community of enthusiasts” and its goal goal is to create a community for Bronco fans. It will do that by hosting exclusive news, community forums, events, interactive maps, how-to content, historical archives, and other resources.

Bronco enthusiasts will also be able to buy merchandise from the website, which currently offers t-shirts, caps, patches, and sticker packs. Obviously, the website focuses more on the upcoming 2021 Ford Bronco which is likely the reason why it was set up in the first place. Ford needs a Bronco community to rival the Jeep Wrangler community and Bronco Nation aims to do just that.

While it looks great, the website is low on fuel at the moment and by fuel we obviously mean 2021 Bronco- and 2021 Bronco Sport-related stuff. Originally scheduled to debut on March 17, the all-new Bronco body-on-frame SUV was delayed because of the coronavirus outbreak and is currently expected to launch sometime this year.

The launch of the smaller, unibody Bronco Sport was also delayed for the same reasons. Production has been postponed by nearly two months, with manufacturing of the SUV now scheduled to start on September 7 at Ford’s plant in Hermosillo, Mexico. The 2021 Ford Bronco will be made in the United States, at the Fort Wayne plant in Michigan.
